i just installed ubuntu studio (unfortunately had to repeat the procedure many times)

i have a few issues as yet unresolved...

#1 my monitor can only do 800x600 but the login between booting and desktop is unreadable -- it has the right colors but it is all whack... what can i do to fix this??

#2 i cannot resize the *width* of the main window in Ardour small enough so that I can see the whole thing on my monitor. what's up with that?

#3 still monkeying with jack. i am using an emagic emi 6|2m anyone else out there with this usb device??

thanks in advance!

Hows it goin' moll? We whole heartedly support your urge to upgrade to AMD64, Ubuntu, & the use of Ardour!

As per your firewire preference, check out FFADO which stands for "Free FireWire Audio Drivers" (FFADO used to be known as FreeBob)

Take a peek at the list of supported devices. We think you'll be very pleased. The fact that it works is a good sign and means people will be and are improving the driver. But to tell you tell truth, you can't always rely on what you read in forums or chatrooms. Some people are never pleased with anything. Also, who knows what mistakes they may have made or necessary steps they were oblivious to which caused their conflicts in the first place.

But, since Ubuntu is free it's also risk free. Hope you see you around.

can't wait to have the ubuntu studio release! being a mac user (powerbook), i'm pretty familiar with ardour (although the ardour2 releases incl. rc1 are still pretty unstable on a mac). still i'm seriously considering getting some amd64 dual core machine powered with linux and together with ardour to use it as a heart of my studio (pb_g4/osx is great for travelling, but sometimes just not powerful enough...)

therefore i'm quite happy with the ubustu site - info like this would be abs. essential for me as a linux newbie.

one thing that has been preventing me from switching is hardware support. i'm used to use firewire audio devices like edirol or presonus, and what i managed to google about their functionality with linux is quite confusing and not really optimistic. it --should-- be possible via freebob, but often reported as complicated and unreliable, in the best case with the need of hours spend building and cofiguring... you can imagine how horror-like can this look for a mac user, who not even used to --see-- the code/terminal! :)

do you know for instance, if my presonus firebox will work in ubuntu studio without too much hassle?
thanks!

We may be biased, but the only thing easier than the installation will be the learnin' ;)

Marco, good news! We did some quick research and there appear to be ALSA drivers for both of your cards.

Echo Indigo
http://alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/index.php?vendor=vendor-Echo_Corporation#matrix

RME Hammerfall
http://alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/index.php?vendor=vendor-RME#matrix

Line6 is a litte tricker but this will get you on the right path
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=152321

Worse case scenario you'll have to use it like a stompbox. Thanks for reading!

Super interesting! Thanks for the screenshot. They are looking great. Want to find out how easy it will be for me to install everthing and get my RME Hammerfall and Echo Indigo working. And hopefully my Line6 Guitarport as well.

Thanks for thumbs up, Net Duck. Though we must admit, we are in no way affiliated with Canonical, Ubuntu, or Ubuntu Studio.

We are merely a small group of computer literate artists who would like to see Ubuntu Studio in the hands of anyone who's ever had a whim.

The only official website for Ubuntu Studio is http://ubuntustudio.org
