Here’s what MetalMusicAddict (the lead developer for Ubuntu Studio) had to say on an Ubuntu Studio related forum post about three hours ago :
We’re actually closing in on the home stretch tonight. We’re building test disks tonight and will take the next day or so to test. It could be a couple of days late but it’s looking like Friday Monday.
Now, more than ever before, is the time to get excited! If you’re going for a fresh install we suggest getting those partitions ready!

I’m psyched! In particular I want to see how the tools are conducive to making podcasts.
Today is friday and I’m going crazy, where is it, come on guys my partitions are waiting
Fridasy dies here in Australia in three hours….So I hope after my sleepy by we have some good news.
You seem to have had some duff info — it’s Friday afternoon and still no sign…
You seem to have some duff patience my friend. It’s a big world. There are still 13 hours left in Friday where we live
Make sure you guys are checking the official website @ ubuntustudio.org
If this is out by the end of today, I’ll eat my keyboard.
I’m taking your word seriously Mr X, you can upload video on youtube don’t forget to give us link
Friday is about 48 hours long, if I’m not wrong
That would mean that there are about 14 or 15 hours left
Please take a photo when you eat the keyboard and post a link, thanks.
friday is already gone in Europe and no still no sign of Ubuntu Studio whatsoever
I’d rather see a great release then a rush job.
You got lucky MrX.
The release has been pushed back a few days, possibly on Monday. In order to save the development team from any more stress, we will NOT make any more updates concerning the release until the very moment the downloads are available.
We want to point out that the quote in the post above did not absolutely confirm that Friday was going to be the release day. This is our fault as hungry-for-information bloggers. We jumped the gun and immediately posted what should have been a relatively obscure forum thread.
We also want to point out that we are just as excited as you are!
We can’t stress enough how close it really is. We were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to temporarily test the current version and everything seemed very solid on our end (do not ask)
But, in order to make sure things run as smoothly as possible for as many people/machines as possible…. the development team wants to work out literally just 2 or 3 minor kinks.
if you cant handle the suspense, or just have to have the daily inside scoop, or simply need companionship during these “hard times”, come and join #ubuntustudio on Freenode (chat.freenode.net)
Oh, if you don’t know already, we’re just a tutorial/news blog… we are not the developers… the ONLY official website is ubuntustudio.org
On one hand, I’m seeing similarities between this and the release of Windows Vista.
On the other hand, I’m excited to know that this release is going to be at least a zillion times cooler than Vista could ever dream of being.
If the Studio team is reading this, thank you in advance for your hard work!
Yeah!
Thanks Studio team for such a great effort
I am pretty sure you have done a great job (even though I did not test ubustu yet).
CONGRATULATIONS IN ADVANCE!
Since I’m pretty new to Ubuntu — how does one get one’s partitions ready for the release/. I got myself a gparted — so what is the suitable scenario?
Since I have had quite a few issues with media on Ubuntu I’m keen to do the embrace right and save my self as much stress as I can enable.
Dave, we’d download the bootable “LiveCD” version of gparted and figure out where you can make space from there.
If you already have FREE SPACE (not freespace as in “no data” but free space as in “not already a part of any partition”) you can just have the Ubuntu Studio install.
If you need to shrink down an existing partition in order to create a new one for Ubuntu Studio, youll definately need the Gparted boot disk.
From what we understand, shrinking a Windows partition down is a potentially scary move, but making a new patition from an already existing Ubuntu install is relatively safe.
No matter what, messing with partitions is always a little on the risky side, so be sure to backup any irreplaceable data.
If you already have Ubuntu installed, keep in mind that if you have updated to Feisty, you can simply download the Ubuntu Studio packages into your existing install!
We’ll have a mega “how to install” tutorial ready on the day of release, so you could always look for that as well
Good luck! Can’t wait ourselves!
ooooh sometimes i hate living in australia, cause monday here is sunday in america!! There is a huge group of us over here, who are actually going to make the switch to linux pretty much based on this OS release, if it lives up to what it has the potential to be, there will be a bunch of us cleaning Vista off, and installing Ubuntu Studio…
A few of us were going to install Fiesty on its release, but decided that Studio was worth waiting for, and just going with a single linux partition instead of two…
Thanks for this site too ubustu… any tidbit of info makes the wait easier than just staring at the promo site!!
Cant wait, cant wait, cant wait, cant wait, cant wait, cant wait, cant wait, cant wait!!!
I wonder if the delay is to wait and get Jokosher in the release.
Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
Like the rest of you, I’m bursting with anticipation
Today is monday and its not released
Anybody want to bet a keyboard-meal that it won’t be out today, either?
The Gnonlin bug fix just came out on the 5th, so they need to back port that into GStreamer and Jokosher after that, so it is a (high) possibility it won’t be today. So perhaps, I will bet it won’t be out today…not so sure that I’ll eat a keyboard on it though…
I am anxiously awaiting the release. As much as I really wish it would have come out on Friday, I would rather wait until the developers consider it ready. I am really glad that someone is willing to do the work for this project.
WTG! Keep up the good work.
is this really coming out? cuz they don’t even have a release date, they just mke us wait and wait with no updates of any kind
Well geez guys, it’s still linux after all. As a few people have already stated, the fact that this project is where it is in the first place is a huge testament to OSS. These people have lives, you know!
Also, the longer it’s delayed the longer they have to work on it. As stated, they apparently have only a few bugs to work out. Personally, I would much rather have it work perfectly on this old crappy machine than to rush the release but then find out something doesn’t work.
I’m just as eager as the next guy to download this release, but I can wait a bit longer if that’s what it takes!
Thanks, ubustu team, for giving so much of your lives to this. It seems like exactly what a number of users are really looking for.
My vista is so lonely, it’s crying for a companion, quote: “please let dual boot me with some good distro” …
Yes, it will be coming out soon. No, there is not an official release date.
I prefer the late release by a month to Microsoft’s release patterns. Look at Vista: It used to be scheduled for 2004, then 2005, then early 06, then mid 06, then Q3 06, and finally early 07. Ubuntu Studio has not changed by much. I can’t wait either, but I prefer waiting to using Vista.
What I really like about Ubuntu & Ubuntu Studio is the user friendliness. Usually most people I meet have one or more of these conceptions:
1) Don’t have any idea what Linux is. (May have heard of it)
2) Think all Linux is like Gentoo, where manual command line installes are required.
3) Think Linux is a nerd platform that is not for them.
4) Think Linux looks ugly compared to Windows.
Ubuntu and Ubuntu Studio disprove that. I show people my desktop, and explain that it took me less then an hour to get it all up, and only 12 minutes to get Ubuntu installed.
I am hoping that Ubuntu Studio convinces my friends to try Ubuntu, especially those that don’t have the money for Adobe/Autodesk/Apple (lots of As in the Creative business, I guess, especially since Discreet and Macromedia are no longer existant) products.
I expect it this Friday. Anytime this week sounds good, though.
heh, i only have a proper internet connection for tonight and tomorrow,
after than who knows when i’ll get my paws on this thing
such is life
ubustu rocks!
ps, they updated the official site finaly, its says
Coming Soon!
just like flying cars and the end of the world aparently,
stay well mis amigos
is there a cd version? or is it dvd only?
Anyone checked the Ubuntu Repos? I did and Studio is in it as an upgrade!
There are a few “ubuntustudio” packages in the Feisty repos, but they are NOT the Ubuntu Studio you are waiting for! Those packages are very, very old.
Sit tight guys! “ANY DAY NOW” is the phrase you should burn into your skulls. The disk has already been finalized, they’re just getting all the “paperwork” done, so to speak.
We think we may have heard something about Thursday in the developer’s chatroom…?
Ubuntu Studio will require a DVD. Don’t worry, there will be ways of installing it without having a DVD burner (afterall, you could just install Feisty and then download the Ubuntu Studio packages)
Check out this teaser that has been floating around #ubuntustudio today
So if I’ve already got Feisty (which I have), will I be able to “convert” it to Studio without having to reinstall a whole new OS? If so, fab!
Mr X, YES!
I’m stoked
my art waits ubuntustudio!!!
I did a search for “where is ubuntu studio?” and found this page. I can’t believe how anxious I’ve become. I haven’t been this excited about software in a very long time.
Hellos! I’ve installed Ubuntu to start playing with it before Ubuntu Studio. I’ve got an AMD64 and run into some problems trying to install/download Compiz (I have yet to do a proper search at the forums and google though).
But regarding Ubuntu Studio, is AMD64 supported on most apps of the package? Or I’m in for trouble?
Please fix that ubuntu 7.04 installation bug for ATI cards in this distro if possible.
Keep up the good work!
As long as it’s out by this saturday … I’m happy. This thing just might save me thousands of dollars that I dont have (I’m 13, I have less than $100).
When is going to be out? It’s wednesday in los angeles! WHY GOD, WHY? is there a release date out yet? anybody who has any info please email me.
mr.miloshovel@gmail.com
thanks
pacing… all day, everyday… Waiting for ubuntu studio…
the new word on the street is FRIDAY… so just pretend this was posted this week and not last week
OMG!!… i have constantly checking ubunstu for any sort of updates about the relase still nothing.. this makes me so anxious. Well in either case i rather have a good product than a bad one. Keep up the good work ubuntu studio team!!
TaCo
Hi all,
I’m also excited about this release. Like someone else said, I can’t believe I’m this excited about a software release. I feel like a total geek now, wich I’m proud of

If this turns out good, I’m most likely gonna invest in new hardware to make the most of it. Please, give me an excuse to buy more stuff
Oh, and the team of Ubustu, thanks for making this site. It’s really a great initiative, and hope you’ll continue with the nice tutorials!
Greetz
the rumours I have now heard say this friday is the release, with jokosher.

I just checked over at ubuntustudio.org, and the site is offline. Wonder what that means?

It’s now available
omg is out… is out! Good job Ubuntu studio team, hopefully I’ll get to try it tonight…

If you’re like me and you’re anxiously awaiting an INSTALLATION TUTORIAL from ubustu, take heart, because i’ve heard it rumored that they’re going to post one soon!
Oh well, that’s answer my question, no AMD64 support
But I will try the repositories anyway.
And thanks for the Ubuntu Studio team!! There’s a lot of people that will be able to make excellent use of this!
