Ubuntu Studio 7.04 (Fiesty)
The following information is now outdated. You want 7.10 Gutsy.
Until the official site is back online, here are several file mirrors for the Ubuntu Studio install disk. Please, please consider seeding the official torrent at the end of the list. Seeding is an easy way to be an integral part of the worldwide Ubuntu Studio experience. :

How to add Studio to an existing Ubuntu install
As of 7.10 (Gutsy) there is no longer any need for a separate Ubuntu Studio repository. All files found in Ubuntu Studio are now also a part of the official Ubuntu Repository.
First you’ll want to add the Ubuntu Studio repository to your Sources list and update :
Now fire up Synaptic Package Manager. Search for ubuntustudio. All the packages except -screensaver and -launcher are official Studio packages. Cue them up for install and you’re good to go!

And if you use a download manager such as “free download manager” (google it) you can download from all the mirrors at once to speed it up
Also, cut and pasted from the website:

It would be great if you could add the md5-sum to this post
Hollunder: The md5-sum link is listed underneath the iso link at each of the mirrors
Quick tip: place torrent link at TOP of the list.
seeding is good.
Hey,
Just, can you provide the country of the mirror, so people use the nearest ?
Good to see we have so much success.
Toine
Ubuntu Studio devel
Neither of the torrents seem to work atm
There’s a .metalink for the ISO at
http://www.metalinker.org/samples.html
This can be used by download managers like Free Download Manager, GetRight, Speed Download, aria2, and others. It lists the mirrors and their countries (so you can use the nearest automatically), checksums so downloads can be automatically repaired, and other stuff. It’s plain XML so you can view it in a text editor.
I found the md5-sums, it would just have been handier (and would remind people to check them
The first Torrent worked for me today and I’m seeding atm
Another note: please remind in your tutorial to disable proprietary nvidia-drivers before they upgrade to the low-latency kernel
Wait, what’s this about the kernel not working with nvidia drivers?
Don’t worry, it works.
Let me explain how it worked for me:
It just needs the package “linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-15-lowlatency” which didn’t automatically install with the lowlatency-kernel.
So when I had the restricted nvidia-drivers installed the Xserver didn’t work with the lowlatency kernel. Simply installing this package does the trick.
I guess it’s not the right place to discuss stuff like that, is there already a board somewhere?
@ubustu: The mirror http://intelligentdancemusic.com/ubuntustudio was listed as US on the official ubuntustudio page.
I currently have XP using my entire hard drive. For the partition step in the ubuntustudio installation, which option do I select to shrink my XP partition in half and devote the other half to ubuntustudio?
Thanks for your help,
Jon
How do I burn the iso on a DVD in nero? It complains and want a CDr… but no cdr vill take the sie of the image.
How to burn it in winXP?
I’m seeding right now. There are tons of connections. I’ve also installed it on my old Thinkpad R40 using the Audio profile. The install went great. I can’t wait to hook my guitar up tonight and try out some of the JACK pieces on the low latency kernel.
@M: for nero-questions: ask nero support
this is one of probably many win-programs to burn dvds: http://www.cdburnerxp.se/download.php
Thanks to everyone who is seeding! We saw a significant jump in the number of seeders in the last two hours! You guys rule!
This is really quite funny. Waited sooooo long for this to be released, and now all of the download links have gone down.
Sad, sad, sad.
All the download links are not down! The torrent is going strong! Most of the http download mirrors work too!
The Linuxaudio us mirror is unavalible
So, wait. If I were to use my Nvidia card to do desktop effects, would that free up the regular processor to do audio?
Hey, M from Sweden, on the “Burn Compilation” screen, in Nero, choose dvd instead of cd and you’re ready to go. Burn it at the lowest possible speed and write method disc-at-once.
Good luck
oh, and choose “finalize cd” as well.
All of the .iso mirrors are down now. You can use torrent.
Hope the site comes back up soon.
tha last mirror for the dvd iso file (zyrianes) works well for me (europe)
*seeding*

hey people, im wondering how can i download the files manually from the repository i have no internet at the moment so i would like to download the packages and install them. Synaptic Package Manager not an option.
any help will be appreciated
Hello,
Could someone please tell me which partitioning option I need to select in order to partition my HD 50% XP and 50% ubuntustudio? I currently just have XP and I’m afraid to wipe my HD clean.
Thank you,
Jon
@John, I think you can do that with apt-get… I’m on WinXP right now so I can’t double check. Just check apt-get -h to see if there is an option in which you can download the packages and not install them. Once I switch back over I’ll try and see if I can help anymore.
@Jon M, I’m pretty sure that Ubuntu can resize it for you the way you want. And I wouldn’t take any chances on a hard drive with materials on it that you want to keep, I’ve had lots of experiance with that… ;).
Downloading now!
Congrats to the Ubuntu Studio team on their release! Looking forward to this!
I wonder when the official website will be back up? I work at a non-profit radio station and I’d quite like to recommend this to the boss as a cheaper alternative to XP / Audition, but I can’t show him a website that just loads as an error page.
I was planning on reinstalling my system anyway, so I installed from a normal Feisty CD then added the Studio repos and packages afterwards. Works well, even with Nvidia after adding the restricted package mentioned above, and saved me downloading a DVD.
Don’t like the black theme at all though, sorry — I’ve gone back to my old Glossy theme.
Some of you might be interested in this Light Ubutu Studio theme. Although it is not official, It was created by the author of Murrine, the GTK Engine which the Ubuntu Studio theme is based upon.
Here’s a screenshot of the light theme
We’re still putting the final touches on the intall guide. However, it will be epic!
Hi Guys,
I do audio production on my Kubuntu setup for a radio show. Currently I only produce sections of the show and it gets finished at the station. I’m wondering if I can can follow this same proceedure to add US Desktop.
Is there anything else I need to be aware of?
Thanks,
Kev
Kev : it should work, but do know that ubuntustudio-desktop is gnome based. you could JUST install the applications packages if you wanted to keep your desktop intact
Installation stucked at 85% with brltty-X11
is that a bug or what? CD Integrity is OK.
thanks taco for the reply i found what i was looking for not with apt get but thats anyway.
i found most of them here i guess the rest are in ubuntu repo
http://archive.ubuntustudio.org/ubuntustudio/dists/feisty/main/binary-i386/
its CAPITAL a powerpc edition, most of desingner are currently using it. just like me
Really good work… I’d have preferred a graphical installation with live CD, but it’s definitely a really good OS. And has a beautiful theme
I’m agree with Joaquin, and most of musicians too !
Is PPC version envisaged soon ?
Ale : unfortunately it didnt actually freeze. Stop watching the screen and try again! It hangs for a while at the exact same percentage and file for us too!
There is no planned PPC version at the moment! It just came out!
Fantastic mirror only 5% to go.By the way how do i forward bt ports seems they are blocked at the gateway, pissing me off big,the damn technicians forgot even the password to the crappy thing.Lots of luv from nairobi-kenya
http://majalah-linux.baliwae.com/mirror/ubuntustudio/
gachao : It depends on which BT program you are using. Check the ‘preferences’ for the BT client you use and look for port settings. It will tell you which port you need to forward.
Thank you so much for the mirror!
Anyone have problem with ATI graphic cards or I am the one?
I have an ATI card, and I also had problems. X wouldn’t start after installation and I couldn’t fix it. So I installed Feisty and added the UbuntuStudio repo’s. I installed all the apps via Synaptic and it is running fine now.

CORRECT:
http://majalah-linux.baliwae.com/mirror/ubuntustudio (Africa)
is INDONESIA
not AFRICA
thank you
ubustu: I have the same problem as ale. When the install gets to brltty-x11, the system hangs and becomes unresponsive. This is installing on a Dell XPS laptop with an nVidia 7800 card. The installation worked flawlessly with the same CD on my Dell Inspiron laptop with an ATI card (beyond the fact that X wouldn’t start, like the two previous posters, but I fixed that with a couple of apt-get installs via the command line, so I didn’t have to do any backwards installs of Ubuntu and add the repos later). Essentially, once the install gets to the brltty-x11 portion, the system becomes completely unresponsive and requires a hard reboot. Unfortunately, I’ve not got any verbose output from the installer, so any help you may be able to provide would be appreciated.
Jon: this may help you: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/partitioning
I would like to make a nice DVD label for UbuntuStudio, can anyone send me graphics (can’t get anything from the site because it’s down)…?
I take it all back, it seems that the real problem is the connection to security.ubuntu.com was timing out. Switching over to another terminal while I was installing and doing a tail /var/log/syslog proved that the actual problem was the inability to connect to one of the package repos. Once I reset the network, everything finished as expected.
Also: I have yet to get a torrent that checks out with md5summer…am I doing something wrong? Or are all of the torrents out there bad somehow?
Cody, thats good information to have… it hangs up at britty-x11 too… tho we left the room and came back 20 mins later and everything was fine
AngelaMake sure you are “checking” the .md5 file, not the .iso
I seed this one from night until lunch: http://ubuntustudio.org/files/UbuntuStudio_7.04.torrent
I have everything maxed and my Internet connection is decently fast, but I’m on the west coast so everything closer to the west will probably get a better download rate if you connect to me randomly
Is http://ubuntustudio.org/ down again?
Yea i think the 85% mark means files have finished installing and it starts checking through the sources list. Since I’m installing without an internet connection i find this highly frustrating, 4gb dvd shouldn’t FORCE internet updates. If anyone know’s how to empty the sources list, or make it so it doesn’t even check the sources list that would be great.
I want to upgrade feisty with studio but the code doesn’t work, it replies “ID deb not found”.
This is the code : sudo su -c ‘echo deb http://archive.ubuntustudio.org/ubuntustudio feisty main >> /etc/apt/sources.list’
How the hell do I burn this??!! a cd iso thats too big for a cd ?? WTF
spend over an hour tryin to get the cd iso to burn on a dvd with no success, tried dvd decryptor and others to get this on a dvd…will not boot this way.. Tryed overburning cd-r in various progz but size is too much.
plz help!!
..thanks
@chris- I was a nero user and had the same problem of not being able to burn the image to a dvd. Installed the program as listed by Hollunder above, chose to open iso, and it burned fine first go. Should work for you hopefully ;D
Hollunder Says:

I am installing Ubuntu Desktop on my VMware VM,,, now I am getting through every part of the installation just fine until i reach britty-x11,, what is this a download mirror?, whats taking this so long to finish, I have Server Enterprise Edition running in VM also and it works like a charm,, anyone know the config the VM hard disk should have (if any) so that this will work, I received DHCP config successfully is the message ubuntu installer gave me so I shouldn’t be getting this much latency.
I’m relieved to know I’m not the only one having trouble burning this; I’ve tried every configuration in Nero, to no avail. What is the deal there?! CDXPBurner doesn’t do the trick either, and DUH, how could it possibly do something that Nero couldn’t? Anyone have a good, clear answer for this? I’d really appreciate it!
yeah so.. umm.. installed feaisty fawn, used synaptic to get all the studio packages (both audio and video) including everything but.. ubuntustudioaudio package will not work, because the ardour package is broken. and from the ardour site is says that i should download ardour from my distro using either apt-get or synaptic, which i then cant.
with that said: what do i do?
Hi there! I had no problem in burning the dvd, but I had two others. The first one is that a cant install programs, in the step “choose programs…” Ive tried checking diferent boxes (audio, video, grafic, etc), but it gave me an error so I skiped this step thinking of doing it later. And the secon one is that UbuntuStudio begins in console mode! Now Im downloading another iso, maybe thats the problem?
Long Live Studio!
Hi. try to download the key but not found the file.
the site http://archive.ubuntustudio.org/ubuntustudio.gpg is down.
thanks for all
@taur
You’re right. I’ve also tried to download it, but it doesn’t appear to be working.
Mirrors have been updated. Don’t worry about Feisty anymore
How do I play mp3s on Ubuntu studio and watch movies?
