After you’ve prepared a partition with GParted, you are ready to install Ubuntu Studio. We’ve created a video walkthrough so you can visualize this process before you actually do it yourself. Overall, the install is extremely painless :
If you prefer to see the install process broken up into a multitude of screenshots and text, check out this install guide.

i cant mount the cd-rom and i have the partition made already with gparted. it says [!!]Detect and mount cd-rom: cannot detect cd-rom, make sure cd rom is in the drive when its in there. its drivin me nuts!
The user “Jonny” created, is that the admin or a “ordinary” user? If not the admin, how do I create an admin? Or if Jonny is the admin, shouldn’t a ordinary user be created as well…?
The first user you set up in Ubuntu is USER and ADMIN at the same time. However, for changes in the system you are asked the password.
It is essentially useless for a Window’s user. The ISO image can only be burned to a CD by Nero software, but can’t fit in a CD. In Ubuntu forums other users have mentioned this, but either got no response, or figured out an alternative way to burn a DVD. The responses are usually, “Why would you want to burn a CD?”.
The problem is that this ISO can’t be used by most DVD burning software in Windows. Somehow it is marked to be only burned to CD’s. In NERO, it says “Remove this DVD and insert a CD”.
I found that I could burn it to dvd using the built-in DVD burning software of another computer, an Acer Laptop running Vista.
Then, after two attempts at installation, with errors, I searched for “Ubuntu DVD” downloaded a proper Ubuntu 7.04 DVD image file, burned it with Nero and installed Ubuntu with no problems and am now dual booting it with Windows XP.
I might still look at the steps for how to load the Ubuntu Studio programs on top of Ubuntu.
Yea so… where did you find it might I ask, cuz little ol’ me is still sittin’ here trying to download the stupid thing, and I can’t seem to find ANYWAY to do it. I’m a bit inept when it comes to these things, so… HELP PLEASE!
Actually, for those of you in my predicament, I “seemed” to have found this, and hopefully it will work. Heres the link:

Actually I got it by just downloading from CNET’s download.com, and then getting the Ubuntu Studio stuff just by updating. Though I’m not COMPLETELY positive this works this way, you can still look it up on the internet, and besides, you must update before you even install Ubuntu Studio, considering that you have to update once you get it.
ITS JUST IN: THE UBUNTU STUDIO SITE IS NOW BACK UP!!!!!!!!!!!
SO GET IT WHILE IT’S HOT!!!!!
Sorry, left the wrong link:

Enjoy The Works!
ImageBurn is your best bet for burning a dvd or cdrom iso file. Its free and open source. As for installing ubuntu studio, its easier just to install the packages once you have Gutsy installed. No need to add sources to the sources.list file.
Troy:
Older cd drives are not found by Linux 2.6 based kernels, it seems to me.
I have upgraded to dvd burners at reasonable cost.
Also, a general rule is no less than a 450 pentium or similar to run plain UBUNTU. You will need much more for Studio.
I know a few of you might think such things are obvious, but I do tech support for a lot of Comcast users, and as my wife says, “You forgot to say to hit ”
I have been using Ubustudio (feisty) for 1 year now.
Very tightly weaved OS, I enjoyed it very much.
Installing Ubustu Gutsy was deceiving because my Gb ethernet was not detected.
I hope you guys compiled the driver as a module at least, having to recompile the kernel would just suck.
